Rice is a part of many traditional cuisines. It is used as a main dish as a side dish or as a decoration for food. People knew about rice a long time ago. It has been part of our meals for 5,000 years. The first information about rice was found in China about 2,800 BC. The rise has been a part of Chinese food tradition. Rice comes in many shapes, colors and sizes. There are several types of rice known worldwide.
- Long Grain Brown Rice - Long grain rice has a long, slender kernel, four to five times longer than its width. Cooked grains are separate, light and fluffy. - Short Grain Brown Rice - Short grain rice has a short, plump, almost, round kernel. Cooked grains are soft and cling together. - Sweet Brown Rice - Sweet rice is short and plump with a chalky white, opaque kernel. When cooked, sweet rice loses its shape and is very sticky. - Brown Basmati Rice - India is well known for its fragrant Basmati rice, another aromatic long grain rice with a distinct popcorn aroma. - Chinese Black Rice - Chinese Black Rice is a medium grain rice with white kernels inside the black bean. Cooked, it takes on a deep publishing color.Rice is definitely the food we should include in our diet. It is full with nutrients. This food is really good for us, because it is very healthy. Rice contains proteins, iron, B vitamins and folic acid. These nutrition give us a lot of energy and that is why we do not need extra snacks.
It is also important to know that the brown rice is whole grain and the white is not. Most of us are aware that we do not get as much fiber as we should. That is why rice is a good choice for our next meal. Whole grains are the healthiest option because they retain all the nutrients from the grain and are high in fiber.
